It's an ideal place for picnicking or catching some sunrays in spring and summer. The area is also host to annual concerts and memorable performances by well-known artists and celebrities. South of the Great Lawn is the Turtle Pond, a 2-acre man made pond. Five species of turtles inhabit the pond. Central Park is a United States National Historic Landmark, United States Register of Historic Places and a New York City Scenic Landmark.
