The bluish green/ emerald coloured Upper Bhavani lake at Mukurthi National Park in south-western India's Western Ghats. Such serene and clean lakes are very rare in south India and are usually seen in the Ladakh region in the north. Mukurthi National Park is in one of India's most beautiful districts - The Nilgiris. The park is located atop the Nilgiri Plateau and is home to some of India's most beautiful landscapes and endangered wildlife like Nigiri Tahr (a type of mountain goat) and Bengal Tiger.Western Ghats, or Sahayadris as they are known in many Indian languages, are a 1600 km long chain of mountains that run parallel to the Arabian Sea in peninsular India.
