Ancient male mummy unearthed in Peru excavation

LIMA, PERU - JUNE 21: A group of Peruvian archaeologists discovered a well-preserved male mummy dating back over 3,000 years in the district of Rímac during excavation works in an ancient site.The finding was part of the recovery and valorization program of "Huaca La Florida," led by the District Municipality of Rímac with the support of the National University of San Marcos.The mummy was found in excellent condition inside a stone tomb, wrapped in a funerary bundle made of native cotton. Several objects were discovered alongside the mummy, including necklaces, corn, coca leaves, and seeds as well.The Ministry of Culture has granted permission to the archaeologists to continue their excavations, allowing for a deeper understanding of the history of this archaeological site, which is recognized as a World Cultural Heritage.Huaca La Florida is a pre-Hispanic U-shaped temple that dates back approximately 4,000 years, making it one of the oldest monuments in metropolitan Lima and the oldest in the Rímac Valley.The male mummy discovered is associated with the last construction phase of the temple and is estimated to be between 3,000 and 3,500 years old.
