SPEECH - NYC Mayor Adams Denounces The Anti-Muslim Assault On 55-Year-Old Muslim Woman
NEW YORK, NEW YORK – JUNE 25: (SPEECH) Marwa Janini, Executive Director, Arab Association of New York, says, “This is Islamophobia. And for many Muslim New Yorkers, public safety is not a guarantee. It's a daily concern,” following the recent assault on a 55-year-old Muslim woman in the subway, during a press conference on June 25, 2025 in New York City. Mayor Eric Adams and community leaders condemned the attack and Islamophobia, emphasizing the city's commitment to addressing faith-based hate. The victim, who sustained a concussion and broken bones, was assaulted after the suspect, 34-year-old Naved Durrni, questioned her religion. Durrni, who has a history of similar offenses, now faces hate crime charges. Adams reiterated New York City's dedication to combating hate and promoting interfaith unity.
