Senate Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Jack Reed of Rhode Island says opening a posture hearing with Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll and Chief of Staff Randy George that that the United States Army as the most powerful ground force in the world was fundamental to deterring and confronting threats, questioning the Army Transformation Initiative that would reduce headquarters, consolidate commands, redirect funding, restructure infantry brigades, and reduce procurement while expressing openness to improving efficiency but having concerns about the analysis and implementation plan.
